A 39 litre fabric pot from the Boxer line, 40 centimetres wide and 30 tall, with handles. At this volume a pot usually stands outdoors or in a greenhouse, and then a property that barely registers indoors starts to count.
The fabric works as a coat around the root ball
A black plastic pot in full sun gets considerably warmer on its sunny side than the air around it. Roots against that wall get too hot, and warm and wet is the combination root diseases wait for. In winter the reverse happens: the wall gives heat up just as readily, and the ball chills to the outside temperature.
A thick fibre layer does the same in both directions as insulation in a wall: it slows the exchange. Root Pouch names this as a property of the fabric, and it is why these pots stay outdoors in professional tree nurseries. The ball warms more slowly and cools more slowly than its surroundings, which takes the peaks off.
What it is not: a guarantee against frost. A 39 litre pot standing outside for days at minus ten will freeze. What the fabric gives you is margin on a frosty night and on a hot afternoon, and for a plant standing out all season that is often exactly enough.
If you want more, move the pots against a wall for the winter or group them so they touch. Pots in contact hold each other's warmth, and the outer ones take the hit.
Thirty-nine litres in the space
At 40 centimetres across, one pot covers over 1,250 square centimetres. Four fit on a square metre touching. The 30 centimetre height makes it wide and low, which keeps it steady under a plant that is also catching wind outdoors.
Roots catch in the weave
The root tip becomes caught in the fabric rather than growing through it, and the plant branches behind that point. Outdoors that carries a bonus: the roots do not go looking for a route into the soil, so the pot does not knit itself to whatever it is standing on.

Frequently asked questions
Can a plant overwinter in it? Better than in thin-walled plastic, but this is not frost protection. In a hard freeze, group the pots or move them against a wall.
Does the ball really stay cooler in summer? Cooler than black plastic in the same sun, yes. How much exactly depends on your situation, and nobody publishes a figure for it.
Will the pot root into the ground? No. The roots stay within the fabric, which is precisely the difference from an air-pruning pot used outdoors.
How much substrate does it take? Roughly four fifths of a 50 litre bag.
