A freshly cut cutting has no roots and still transpires. Everything that leaves through the leaves is something it cannot replace. That is the real reason cuttings collapse in the first few days, and it is a different problem from whether there is enough hormone on the cut.

Clonex Mist works on exactly that point. You mist it over the leaves, where it leaves a mild layer that slows evaporation while supplying amino acids and trace elements taken up through the leaf. That gets the cutting across the gap between cutting and first roots without drawing down what moisture it has left.

So it is not a replacement for a rooting gel or powder, nor the other way round. The product on the wound initiates roots; this spray keeps the cutting intact until those roots arrive.

For the mother plant too, and beforehand

Misting the mother plant a few days before you cut gives sturdier starting material. You are then taking cuttings from a plant that is well supplied rather than one just coming out of a dry spell, and that difference shows up in your strike rate.

Shake the bottle before use and mist at a moment when the droplets can dry off without bright light falling straight onto them.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace my rooting gel?
No. The gel initiates roots at the cut, this spray stops the cutting drying out before those roots exist. They do different jobs.

How often do I mist?
While there are no roots, lightly each day. Once the cutting takes up water itself, you taper off.

Do I need to dilute it?
No, the bottle is ready to use.

Can I keep using it on the mother plant?
It is meant for around the time you cut. A few days beforehand is where the effect sits, rather than as a standing weekly foliar feed.
