Choose by how many you take at once, not by the price per plug

The temptation with a refill bag is to take the large one. With this product that is not automatic, and the reason is the bag itself.

Root Riot plugs are supplied moist and need to stay moist. While the bag is sealed that goes fine. The moment you open it, it starts drying slowly, and plugs that have sat half open for months are not ruined but they are harder and less consistent than fresh ones. A bag matched to how many you take per round is used up in one or two sessions. A bag twice that size sits waiting for half the year.

If you take a handful of cuttings at a time, take the small one. If you fill whole trays at once, the large one makes sense. Either way, keep the bag pinched shut, cool and dark.

Dried out does not mean thrown away

If the plugs have gone hard, they can be brought back. Soak them briefly in lukewarm water until they feel spongy again and let them drain properly: too wet is as unhelpful to a cutting as too dry. Do not squeeze the plug to press the water out, because you flatten the structure you actually need.

Is a tray included?
No. These are the plugs only. The version with the tray is listed separately here.

Do they fit any tray?
They fit the Root Riot tray. In another tray it depends on the hole size; measure it before ordering.

How long do they keep?
Unopened, a long time. After opening, drying out is the limiting factor rather than shelf life; sealing it properly is all that counts.

Can I reuse one after a cutting has failed?
Better not. A plug in which a cutting has rotted contains exactly what you do not want near the next one.
