Eazy Plug - Eazy Pyramid 4.8 litre

A growing block shaped like a pyramid, with no pot and no plastic around it. The Eazy Pyramid 4.8 litre is the last step in the Eazy Plug system: you put an Eazy Block with a young plant on top, and the roots grow from the block into the pyramid.

A block that replaces the pot

In an ordinary pot, roots grow outwards until they hit the wall, then circle along it. You end up with a few thick roots on the outside and few fine roots in the middle. The Eazy Pyramid has no wall. When a root tip reaches the outside it meets the air, dries out and stops. According to Eazy Plug the plant then makes side roots, which spread through the whole block until they also reach the outside.

That is called air pruning. The result is a block full of fine root hairs rather than a root ball going round in circles. The pyramid holds its shape because the material is bonded, so no pot or film is needed to keep it together.

How to use it

Let the pyramid soak up water at pH 5.8 and EC 1.4, and let the excess drain away. Do not squeeze it. Put the Eazy Block on top and give no water for the first three to five days. After that, feed with a light solution of EC 1.2 to 1.4 at pH 5.8, by hand, by dripper or by ebb and flow.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pyramid need a saucer?
It has to be able to lose excess water. Stand it on a grid or in a tray the water can run out of, not in a container it keeps standing in.

Why a lower EC than I am used to?
Eazy Plug says many growers can manage with about 0.2 less EC than on classic substrates, because of the large amount of root hairs. If the leaves turn light green, raise the EC by 0.2.
