The AquaKing HX-1500 is a circulation pump for a nutrient tank, and that means something no ordinary pump has to deal with: it never switches off. A drainage pump runs for an hour and goes back in the cupboard. This one runs all season. Which makes 5 watts the most interesting figure on the page.
What running continuously actually costs
Five watts, day and night, works out at roughly 44 kilowatt hours a year. For comparison, the HX-2500 at 22 watts lands near 193 kWh and the HX-4500 at 36 watts near 315 kWh. On a pump that runs occasionally that is negligible; on one that runs permanently it is the difference between pocket change and a real line on your annual bill. So do not reach for the biggest by default: take the smallest that turns your tank over.
The second effect: heat in your nutrient tank
A pump sitting under water gives off virtually all the power it draws as heat into that water. At five watts you will never notice. On a heavier pump running continuously it is a contribution worth accounting for in a warm growing space, because a warmer reservoir holds less dissolved oxygen. For a small tank, the most economical pump is also the coolest.
Works in shallow water
The HX-1500 needs only 25 millimetres of water depth, so it keeps running as your tank nears empty. Useful on a small reservoir you run low before mixing fresh. It suits fresh and salt water, and nutrient solution down to pH 5.0.

Frequently asked questions
Is 400 litres per hour enough for my tank? For a tank up to about 50 litres it turns the contents over comfortably. For a larger reservoir, look at the HX-2500.
Can it really run day and night? Yes, that is what it is built for. Just keep it submerged at all times.
Can I fit a hose? The outlet is 12 millimetres. For simply circulating a tank you often need no hose at all.
What happens below pH 5.0? The pump is not specified for it. If you run consistently lower, expect the seals to wear faster.
