Aquaking Q2503 submersible pump (5000L/H)

The AquaKing Q2503 pumps up to 5000 litres per hour. That figure is accurate, and it only applies when the pump has to lift the water nowhere at all. It is the most important thing to understand about submersible pumps before choosing one.

Why output falls as soon as you pump upward

Rated capacity is measured at zero head: the outlet sitting at the same height as the water. Lift the water and the pump works against that weight, so output drops. At this pump's maximum head of 6 metres water column, output has fallen to nearly nothing. Between the two runs a smooth curve: the higher you go, the fewer litres you get.

In practice that means pumping from a tank on the floor to a drain at a metre and a half leaves you a good share of those 5000 litres. Pumping four metres up leaves little of it, even though the pump has not stalled.

What else eats into your output

Besides height, the hose itself costs you. Length, narrow bore and every bend add friction. A 25 mm hose over ten metres costs noticeably more than a 30 mm hose over three. So when sizing a pump, reckon on the whole path the water travels, not just the height.

Will I actually get 5000 litres per hour? Only at zero head with a short, wide hose. In any real situation it will be lower, and that is normal.

How do I choose between this and the 7000? Look at the height you need to clear. If it is more than a couple of metres, the 8 metre head model delivers more than this one, even though the difference in litres looks modest.

Can it run continuously? It has no float switch, so it runs for as long as it is plugged in. Do not leave it to run dry unattended.
