AutoPot - 47L water barrel

The AutoPot 47 litre tank is the standard reservoir for an AutoPot setup: pre-drilled, supplied with a lid and a 9 millimetre sealing grommet. There is one thing to know before ordering, because it is the most common reason a new setup does not run straight away.

The filter is not included

The tank comes with its lid and grommet, but the 9 millimetre filter is a separate purchase. Without one, unfiltered water runs into your pipework and your AQUAvalves, and those valves are exactly what particles upset: a grain of substrate or some algae in the seat and the valve no longer closes properly. That is not a failure you see immediately. You notice it as a tray that stays full, or one that runs dry.

So treat tank and filter as one purchase. Order the tank alone and forget the filter, and you have a system that waters but cannot be relied on.

Pre-drilling removes the riskiest step

It arrives drilled at the factory in the right place at the right size, with the grommet supplied. Drilling your own hole in a vessel that will hold 47 kilos of water is precisely the job where a millimetre out of true shows up later as a slow leak, and here you simply do not have to.

Dimensions and siting

The tank is 615 millimetres tall, 375 wide at the lid and 300 at the base: it tapers inward, so it costs little floor. Stand it at least 150 millimetres higher than the highest AQUAvalve5 in your setup. A dedicated stand is available for that.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need the filter? For a reliable AutoPot setup, yes. The AQUAvalves stop sealing once particles reach the seat.

Do I have to drill it myself? No, the tank is pre-drilled and the grommet is included.

Why does the tank need raising? The setup runs on gravity. The water level has to stay above the valves, and 150 millimetres is the minimum.
