At this size the sleeve needs more care

The same sleeve at 250 mm has a considerably harder job than at 100 mm, for two reasons at once.

The first is weight. Parts at 250 mm are not small components: a filter this size soon weighs ten to twenty five kilos and the fan beside it is no lightweight either. So the joint sits between two heavy objects.

The second is surface. At this diameter the sleeve has a far larger contact area, and so a longer seam that has to stay closed. One clamp not tightened evenly passes more air along that length than it would at a small size.

So two rules apply more strictly here than on the small sizes. Support both parts separately, so the sleeve never has to hold weight. And set the sleeve square: hanging skewed puts the rubber permanently under stretch on one side, where it eventually pulls away from the pipe.

On first use, check that nothing moves when the fan starts, since that is the moment a loose clamp gives itself away.

Hanging skewed keeps the rubber stretched on one side, and that is where it eventually lets go.
