The floor is the wrong place for a ballast

In many setups the ballast simply sits on the floor beside the tent, because it is heavy and there is nowhere else for it. That is precisely where you do not want it, for two reasons that have nothing to do with tidiness.

Water ends up on the floor. Not when you are paying attention, but when a hose lets go, a reservoir overflows or a pot drains through. Electronics on the floor are electronics at the lowest point in the room, which is exactly where water collects.

A ballast gets warm and has to lose that heat. On a rug, against a skirting board or wedged between a wall and a tent panel, air cannot get around it. On an open tray it can, and that shows in how long the electronics last.

This tray clamps to a tent pole, so you hang the unit at working height on the outside of the tent. It stays dry, it can shed heat, and the lead no longer runs across the floor.

Mind your tent's load rating too

The tray itself carries up to 10 kg. That is not the same as what your tent carries. A Ø 16 mm frame holds 10 kg per pole, so a fully loaded Carry It on one pole is already at the limit. On Ø 19 or Ø 25 mm frames you have more margin. When in doubt, spread weight across more than one pole.

Can I load it with 10 kg?
The tray can take it, but check what your tent pole may carry as well. On a Ø 16 mm frame, 10 kg per pole is the limit.

Inside or outside the tent?
Outside is preferable for equipment that gives off heat. Inside, you are adding that heat to the space you are trying to cool.
