Five growing levels on a single square metre of floor

The DP120 gets read as a tall version of the DP90. It is not. It is a rack, and the arithmetic behind that is in the parts that come with it.

The box contains twelve Grid6040 shelves, each 60 × 40 cm. The tent's floor is 120 × 60 cm. Three shelves side by side fill that area exactly, since 3 × 40 is 120. Twelve shelves therefore build four full levels, and together with the floor you have five growing surfaces.

Five times 0.72 m² is 3.60 m². That is also, not by coincidence, the maximum growing area Secret Jardin quotes for this range. The numbers check out against each other, and that is what this tent does: the area of a tent a metre and a half square, on the floor space of a bookcase.

One consequence is easy to miss. The 80 watt lighting figure is per level, not for the tent. Light all five and you are heading for 400 watts in total, split across five shallow fixtures. That is exactly why slim LED strips belong in here and a single large lamp does not: it would burn the top level and never reach the other four.

Why this tent is rated for 50 kg

Four levels of trays full of damp substrate add up quickly. The frame is built for it: 50 kg across the whole tent, against 20 kg on the DP90 and 10 kg on the DP60. Per pole the limit stays 10 kg, so spread weight across the levels rather than loading everything at one height.

Allow for the weight of the tent itself too: 19.8 kg empty, boxed. This is not one you carry up a staircase on your own.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use all four levels?
No. The shelves drop in loose, so you decide how many levels you build and at what height. Fewer levels means more headroom on each.

Can I hang one large lamp in it?
Not with multiple levels. Each level needs its own shallow fixture, because light does not pass through a shelf with trays on it.

How much light do I need in total?
Around 80 watts per lit level. At five levels that puts you near 400 watts.
