Why there is a light baffle in the box

A grow tent is meant to be lightproof, and that usually gets discussed as light escaping. The problem runs the other way too, and that is the direction that matters.

Plants time their flowering by the length of the dark period. That period has to be genuinely dark: light falling in at night is seen and counted. A street lamp, a hallway with the light on, an LED on a power supply, any of it is enough.

And that is exactly where the tension sits. You need an open intake, or your extraction pulls the tent hollow and delivers less than it can. But every opening that passes air will, in principle, pass light. A Ø 150 mm hole straight to the outside is a light source the moment anything is lit on the other side.

The light baffle solves that with geometry rather than fabric. Air can travel around a bend; light cannot. Light goes straight, and at every turn it is absorbed by the black interior. What remains is an opening that passes air freely and that you can look into without seeing anything.

In practice: use it on the intake, the opening that stays open. The exhaust is usually already sealed by your ducting and filter. And check the tent once with the door shut and the room light on: climb in, wait for your eyes to adjust, and see where the light is coming from.

The frame at this size

From the 120 up the Dark Street stands on Ø 19 mm poles with 4.0 mm polypropylene corners, against Ø 16 mm and 2.0 mm on the smaller sizes. Load capacity rises to 15 kg per pole and 30 kg across the tent, which is what you need once a filter and a lamp are both hanging.

Frequently asked questions

Does a light baffle cost airflow?
A little, because the air has to turn a corner. On a passive intake at this size you will barely notice it, and the alternative is light during your dark period.

Why does this tent carry more than the 90?
Different poles. Ø 19 mm instead of Ø 16 mm, and 4.0 mm corners instead of 2.0 mm, which takes the per-pole rating from 10 to 15 kg.

Is the tent 198 or 200 cm tall?
