Anywhere, as long as there is a pole there

The DF16 is sold on the promise that you can make an opening wherever you want. That is nearly true, and the difference is exactly what you want to know beforehand.

The holder comes in two halves. The inner one clamps around a tent pole, the outer one screws against it from outside with the canvas in between. That pole is not optional: it carries the weight and keeps the port rigid. A DF16 in the middle of a panel has nothing to hold on to.

In practice that means along a corner upright or a roof bar, anywhere down the length of that pole. Still far more freedom than a fixed sock, but not literally any point on the canvas.

Think it through once before you cut, too. A cut opening is permanent. Walk your setup through in your head: where the fan will stand, which side the ducting leaves the room, and which side you will later want a passive intake on. The holder can be moved; the hole cannot.

What the 5 kg means

The holder is rated to 5 kg. That is not a packaging detail: it means the port itself can carry a fan or a small filter, instead of that weight hanging from your roof bars. On a tent where the load rating is tight, that helps immediately.
