How many intakes do you actually need

For the larger tents Secret Jardin gives one rule: provide a passive intake of roughly half your extraction capacity. That is a useful rule, but it is expressed in m³/h while what you buy here are parts. The translation is usually missing, so here it is.

Work down from your extraction:

• Extracting at 350 m³/h, you want around 175 m³/h of intake.
• Extracting at 650 m³/h, which a Dark Room 150 asks for under full light, that is around 325 m³/h.

What one intake passes depends on the opening and on how hard the tent is pulling. Do not assume a single baffle is enough at the heaviest setting: if one intake does not cover it, a second is cheaper and quieter than a bigger fan. Two openings at different heights also work better than one large one, because the air then travels through the tent rather than up one wall.

A practical check that needs no arithmetic: run the tent at full power with the door shut and look at the canvas. If it is visibly drawn inward, your intake is too small, whatever the sum says.

Secret Jardin supplies this part with mesh, so that an open intake is not an open door. On the Dark Room, note that the light baffle is not standard equipment: that tent ships with two DF25 flanges and connectors, but the intake is bought separately.

Could I just leave a zip open instead?
That passes air, but light as well, and there is no mesh. During the dark period it is exactly what you do not want.
