Grow tent of 100 × 100 × 198 cm on a Ø 16 mm steel frame, with two Ø 180 mm ventilation socks and a removable water tray. A square metre of floor and nearly two metres of height.

From 198 cm to plant height: what is actually left

A tent's height is not the height your plant gets. Between the canvas and the top of your canopy hangs a row of equipment, and together it takes more room than most people allow for. At this size that is the sum that matters.

Working down from the roof, space goes to the hanging system between the roof bars and the lamp, to the depth of the lamp itself, to the distance you must keep between lamp and canopy, and at the bottom to the pot. In an ordinary setup with an LED and an 11 to 25 litre pot, somewhere around 120 to 140 cm of the 198 remains for the plant. Hang the carbon filter inside as well and another 40 to 50 cm goes.

That is also where the gain is. Put the filter outside the tent, on the pressure side of the fan or simply on the floor beside it, and you win all of that height back without changing anything else. The odour is removed just as well, only no longer above your plants.

The second gain is the lamp. A slim, passively cooled LED is far shallower than a reflector with a hood, and that difference comes straight back as plant height.

And mind the two centimetres: Secret Jardin calls this tent 100x100x200, but its data sheet gives 198 cm as the assembled height. We work from 198.

What you hang, and what you hang it from

The frame is Ø 16 mm Q195 steel with 2.0 mm polypropylene corners. Secret Jardin publishes two load figures that often get collapsed into one: 10 kg per pole and 20 kg across the whole tent. The first is the limit you meet in practice, because a filter and a lamp on the same roof bar add up. Spread them over two poles and you have room to spare.

Frequently asked questions

How tall can my plant get in this tent?
Reckon on 120 to 140 cm with an LED and a pot of average height, and 40 to 50 cm less if the carbon filter hangs inside.

Does the filter have to hang inside?
No. Outside the tent it works just as well and saves you the entire height of the filter. It is the cheapest plant height you will ever buy.

Is the tent 198 or 200 cm tall?
198 cm assembled, according to Secret Jardin's own data sheet. The 200 in the model name is rounded.
