Here the intake becomes the limiting factor

For the small Hydro Shoot tents Secret Jardin gives an extraction figure only. From the 120 up a second number appears, and at this size it is the number that makes or breaks your setup: a passive intake sized at 50% of the extraction rate.

The reason is simple. A fan can only move out what comes in on the other side. Extract 650 m³/h from a tent that is essentially sealed and you create negative pressure: the canvas pulls inward, the fan works against its own resistance, and considerably less air passes through it than the rating on the box. You hear it too, because a fan pushing against resistance is louder.

On a small tent this hardly matters, because the gaps around zips and socks already pass enough air by themselves. Over 4.5 m³ at 650 m³/h it does. At that point you need a deliberate intake passing roughly half your extraction rate.

That is what the four Ø 280 mm socks are for. You do not have to use all four for extraction: two as exhaust and two as intake is a normal split, and an intake sock you simply leave open works perfectly well as a passive intake. If you want to filter or control the intake you can put a second fan on it, but it is not required.

The rest of the build

The frame is Ø 19 mm Q195 steel with 4.0 mm polypropylene corners, rated at 15 kg per pole and 30 kg across the tent. The cable port here is not an ordinary sock but a CF7D feedthrough, the same one available separately if you need more of them. The WT150 water tray sits loose in the tent, and the WEBIT150 plant support is made for this size as a separate option.

Frequently asked questions

Does the intake need a fan?
No. An open Ø 280 mm sock passes enough air passively. An intake fan is a choice, not a requirement.

What happens if the intake is too small?
The tent pulls hollow, the extractor delivers less than its rated capacity and the fan gets audibly louder. It looks like an underpowered fan, but the cause is at the other end.

Why four ventilation socks?
So you can split intake and exhaust and run the air diagonally through the tent. Socks you do not use are simply drawn shut.
