Reading Secret Jardin's lighting advice: halve it, quarter it

For this tent Secret Jardin gives 150 watts of HPS or 100 watts of LED. That figure gets quoted as though it characterises the tent, and it does not. It is one point on a scale.

Every recommendation in the data sheet, for light and for extraction alike, is given for Level III: intensive growing of sun-loving plants under full light. That is the heaviest setting. Secret Jardin states how to scale down from it: divide by two for Level II, divide by four for Level I.

For this tent that works out at roughly 100 watts of LED in full flower, around 50 watts through vegetative growth, and around 25 watts for cuttings and seedlings. The same division applies to the extraction figures.

Why it is worth knowing: a tent is not a fixed wattage. Buy a 100 watt lamp and run it flat out from day one and your cuttings get four times the light they can use. A dimmable lamp, or one you hang higher, solves that, and you make that choice when you buy rather than halfway through.

What else changes at this size

Compared with the 40 you gain a second ventilation sock: two Ø 150 mm openings instead of one. That lets you separate intake from exhaust and pull air through the tent rather than merely sucking it out.

The WEBTH60 plant support is made for this size and hangs in the frame. It is not in the box and is bought separately, for when you want to train rather than let plants stretch.

Frequently asked questions

Is 100 watts of LED enough for this tent?
For full flowering that is Secret Jardin's own recommendation. In vegetative growth half is enough and for cuttings a quarter, so a dimmable lamp gets more out of the same tent.

Why two ventilation openings of the same size?
So you can use one as exhaust and one as intake. Extract without an intake and the tent pulls itself hollow, and the fan delivers less than it is capable of.

Will a carbon filter fit?
Yes, as long as you count it against the 10 kg per pole. A filter and a lamp on the same bar add up.
