From 150 to 180 mm: what this size is about

The 40 and the 60 have Ø 150 mm ventilation socks. From the 80 upwards there are two of Ø 180 mm. That looks like a detail in a specification list, but it decides which fan and which filter you can connect without a reducer.

A sock is a piece of fabric with a drawstring. It fits anything that passes through it and is then pulled tight. That works in one direction only: a Ø 180 mm sock cinches easily onto 150 mm ducting, but a Ø 150 mm sock will not stretch to 180. The stated size is a maximum, not a fixed measurement.

In practice that means this. A 180 mm set fits this tent directly, and so does a 150 mm set. You have the choice. On the 60 you do not, and that is exactly where people who scale up later meet a reducer, with the pressure loss and the noise that come with it.

Secret Jardin advises 150 to 200 m³/h of extraction for this tent under full light. A 150 mm inline fan covers that comfortably, so the reason to go to 180 is usually not capacity but noise: the same airflow through a wider duct moves more slowly, and slower is quieter.

The rest of the build

The frame is the same as on the smaller sizes: Ø 16 mm Q195 steel with 2.0 mm polypropylene corners, rated at 10 kg per pole and 20 kg across the tent. At 80 × 80 cm you realistically hang a filter from one bar and a lamp from another, which leaves plenty of margin.

The interior is M210D mylar, the bottom PE210D, and the WT80 water tray sits loose in the tent so you can lift it out to clean it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a 150 mm fan on a 180 mm sock?
Yes. The drawstring pulls the sock tight around the smaller duct. The reverse does not work: a 150 mm sock will not go over 180 mm ducting.

Then why choose 180 mm at all?
For the noise. The same volume of air through a wider duct travels more slowly, and speed is what you hear.

How much extraction do I need?
Secret Jardin gives 150 to 200 m³/h for full flowering. Halve that for vegetative growth and quarter it for cuttings.
