A grid that does not give

Secret Jardin makes two support nets that look almost identical in a photograph. This is the rigid one: nylon thread that does not stretch. That difference decides what you use the net for.

When training, you lead tops through the mesh and bend them horizontal so that one wide, even canopy forms instead of one tall central stem. That only works if the grid stays where you put it. If the net stretches as soon as a branch pushes, your whole layout shifts and the tops end up at different heights anyway.

Nylon thread does not give. The square you laid a branch into is the same square it sits in two weeks later. That makes this the net for the vegetative stage, when you are actively steering.

Hang it in time

The commonest mistake is leaving it late. You tension a net while the plants still pass underneath it, roughly at a third to half of your final plant height. After that the tops grow through it by themselves and you only guide them.

Wait until the canopy is already full and you have to force branches through squares they no longer fit. That costs you side branches, which are exactly what training was meant to win.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from the WebIT?
This one does not stretch and holds your layout; the WebIT is elastic and absorbs weight. For training you want this, for supporting heavy heads the other.

When should I hang it?
Before the canopy under it fills out, at roughly a third to half of the final height.

Can I reuse it?
Yes. At the end of the run cut the stems away rather than pulling the net out, and it will last for years.
