What the net pot size actually limits

The net pot holds the plant and houses the top of the root collar. The rest of the roots hang below it in air with all the room they want. So the size does not limit the root system but the stem thickness and stability.

A cutting or seedling sits perfectly well in a 2 inch pot. Let that plant run on to a sturdy stem with weight above it and two inches gets tight: the plant starts to rock and you have little room to support it. Three inches gives that room, plus more space for clay pebbles around the base to steady the whole thing.

When to choose 3 inch

Choose 3 inch if plants run their whole cycle in this system, cutting to finished, or if you work with types that quickly put on a substantial stem.

Choose 2 inch if the system mainly roots cuttings or starts seedlings and the plants move on elsewhere afterwards. You also fit more in.
