Terra Aquatica GrowStream 10 V2

The Terra Aquatica GrowStream 10 V2 is the second version of the GrowStream: ten plant sites in two one-metre channels, fed from one reservoir of about 45 litres. The system builds on Terra Aquatica's AeroFlo technology.

Flowing rather than standing

One water pump in the reservoir sends the nutrient solution to the channel. There it is injected at calculated intervals, so it runs evenly past the roots along the whole length. It falls back into the reservoir through a downpipe, and that fall aerates the solution for the next round.

In many other systems the solution sits in a tank and is brought to the plants now and then. Here it is permanently in motion. That gives the roots a constant environment rather than a cycle of wet and dry, with no spots where the solution warms or stands still. Terra Aquatica describes it as the advantages of aeroponics without the sensitivity to warm water and pH swings that come with it.

It is simple in layout too. No air pumps, no complex controller, just that one pump.

What V2 changes

The first GrowStream was already an improvement on the AeroFlo. Version 2 adds a detachable cover and rounded corners, so the channel is easy to clean. Channel and cover have a double wall, which protects the solution better against heat and cold. And the irrigation line runs inside the channel, so a leak does not end up beside the system.

The channel is also a little roomier than the AeroFlo's. That gives the roots more space and the system more water, which is why the GrowStream is meant for large plants as well as lettuce and herbs.

Ten plants on one supply

All ten plants share the same flowing solution, so they get the same EC, pH and temperature. You measure and correct in one place. Put in plants with comparable needs, since adjusting per plant is not possible.

At about 45 litres for ten plants, the reserve per plant is modest. Keep an eye on the level, especially with large plants in summer.
