Terra Aquatica GrowStream 20 V2

The Terra Aquatica GrowStream 20 V2 has twenty plant sites in four one-metre channels, over a reservoir of about 170 litres. That last figure is the main difference from the GrowStream 10 V2, and it works out differently from what you might expect.

Twice the plants, almost twice the water per plant

You would expect twenty plants on one system to be harder to manage than ten. With the GrowStream it is the other way round. The 10 V2 has about 45 litres for ten plants, some 4.5 litres per plant. The 20 V2 has about 170 litres for twenty, some 8.5 litres per plant.

You notice that in three ways. The level drops more slowly, so you top up less often. EC and pH shift more gradually, because the same uptake is a smaller share of the reserve. And the temperature is steadier, since a large volume of water warms more slowly. That makes the 20 V2 the more forgiving of the two.

A larger reserve does mean more nutrient per change. Count on about 170 litres of solution for every full change.

The same technology, four channels

It works like the 10 V2. One Syncra 1.0 water pump in the reservoir sends the solution to the channels, where it is injected at calculated intervals and runs past the roots. It falls back through a downpipe and is aerated on the way. No air pumps, no controller.

The V2 improvements are the same too: detachable covers, rounded corners, double walls in channel and cover, and the irrigation line inside the channel.

Twenty plants, one solution

Every plant gets the same EC, pH and temperature. Use crops with comparable needs at a comparable stage, since adjusting per plant or per channel is not possible. Terra Aquatica builds the GrowStream up to 40, 60 and 80 sites, but those are separate systems.
