The 3 inch net pot is the larger size for Terra Aquatica systems. Same open mesh, same recycled plastic, wider diameter.
When to move from 2 to 3 inch
Not because the roots need more room; they grow through the mesh to the solution below anyway. The reason is stability above the pot.
A cutting or seedling sits perfectly well in 2 inch. As soon as that plant puts on a sturdy stem and gains weight in leaf and fruit, a two inch collar becomes too narrow to hold it upright. Three inches gives a broader base, and takes more clay pebbles around it to anchor the whole thing.
What it costs in sites
Larger pots mean fewer positions in the same lid. In the RainForest² range that is exactly what separates the models: 36 sites at 2 inch, 18 at 3 inch, 6 at 6 inch. So choose the size for the plant you intend to grow, not for the number that fits.
Replacing and reusing
The pots are reusable indefinitely. Rinse them between crops, since nutrient residue and algae cling to the mesh and are harder to remove later.
