The RainForest 72 is the largest propagation unit in this range: 72 sites in a single unit, driven by the same Vortex motor as the RainForest² systems.

What 72 sites is about

This is not a growing system with many sites but a propagation machine. At seventy-two positions you are working in batches: setting a whole generation of cuttings away at once, rooting them together and planting them out together.

That makes it interesting for anyone starting a new round at fixed intervals, or keeping mother plants and propagating from them as a matter of routine. For growing plants on to harvest the space per site is too small; the RainForest² versions with 3 or 6 inch pots are meant for that.

Why no humidome is needed

The Vortex motor lifts the nutrient solution, oxygenates it and distributes it as a very fine mist over the cutting bases. Moisture and oxygen therefore arrive directly in the root zone rather than being trapped around the leaves under a lid.

At this scale that saves more than it would on a small tray. Seventy-two cuttings under a dome means condensation, venting, and the risk of one spot of mould running through the whole batch. Without a dome that problem does not arise.

The condition is that the room itself holds temperature and humidity: minimum 22 °C and 70% humidity. At 72 cuttings that is no detail, since the entire batch depends on those same conditions.

No substrate

The system works without rockwool, coco or plugs. That saves both purchase and waste, and makes planting out cleaner: you take a rooted cutting from the net pot without a block of medium around it.
