The peak at 660 nanometres

Warm white light alone does not make a bloom lamp. What sets this bar apart is a group of diodes emitting at one specific wavelength: 660 nanometres, deep red, just inside what the human eye still sees well.

That number is not chosen at random. Around that wavelength lies one of the two peaks at which chlorophyll absorbs light most efficiently. So light at 660 nanometres is largely used rather than reflected, and during flowering a plant can put that extra energy into filling flowers and fruit.

The lamp's warm appearance follows from that rather than the other way round. The bar looks ruddy because there is a lot of red in it, and the red is there because the plant uses it. Making a lamp warm without that peak gives you the colour and not the effect.

In practice: keep this bar roughly 15 to 35 centimetres from your canopy. You can run it as the main light in a small space, or hang it alongside an existing fixture to reinforce flowering.
