A 90 centimetre bar over a propagation shelf

On a shelf of cuttings or young plants the problem differs from a tent. You have little height, your plants are low and fragile, and above all you want the ones at the edges to get as much as those in the middle. A compact lamp handles that badly: it makes a bright patch directly beneath and leaves the corners behind.

A long, narrow bar does exactly the opposite. The light comes from ninety centimetres of source rather than from a single point, so distribution along the length of your shelf is flat. That also lets it hang closer than a point source, and height on a shelf is precisely what you do not have.

Two things about placement. Measure your shelf: where it runs well over ninety centimetres, hang two bars side by side rather than one down the middle, or you simply move the problem to the ends. And keep the bar level, because one hanging at an angle gives more at one end than the other and you will see that in uneven cuttings.

For flowering this is not the right bar: the cool spectrum keeps plants compact, which is exactly right in propagation and wrong in bloom.
