The 40 watt Cosmorrow ULTRAVIOLET is the 90 cm version, combining cool white light with UV diodes at 365 nanometres. Supplementary, on 24 volts.

Building up in hours, and sparing yourself too

At this length you light a good part of your tent in one go, which makes the question of how long it runs more important than on the short version. A bar reaching twice as much crop also reaches twice as much crop wrongly when it is set wrong.

So work in hours rather than by feel. Start with a short period each day during flowering, hold it for a week, and watch the leaf edges and the growth rate. If nothing unpleasant appears, extend by one step and repeat. If you see scorching or stalling, go back to the previous setting and stay there. Write down what you do, because without a note you will not remember three weeks later where you were.

There is someone else in that room who meets the UV, and that is you. Ultraviolet light is not good for eyes and skin over longer exposure, and ninety centimetres of lit UV above a workbench is no longer a detail. Switch the bar off while you are working in the tent, and do not look straight into it when lit. That costs you nothing, since the plant barely registers a half-hour interruption.

Frequently asked questions

How do I settle on the right running time?
Start short, hold it a week, and extend only once your crop responds well. Note every step.

What should I look for on my plants?
Scorched leaf edges, and growth that stalls. Either means going back a step.

Is UV dangerous to me?
Over longer exposure it is not good for eyes or skin. Switch it off while working in the room and do not look into it.

Can I run it at the same time as the infrared bar?
Better not. Those two push your crop in opposite directions on stretch.
