Two bars on one supply means one switch

The practical advantage is obvious: one socket, one adapter, two lamps. There is a consequence that only becomes apparent when you run into it, which is that the two bars become one thing electrically. Whatever you switch on or off, you switch on or off for both.

With two bars of the same spectrum that is exactly what you want. Two growth bars over a propagation shelf ought to switch together, and otherwise you would have bought two separate supplies to achieve the same thing.

With two different spectra it is another matter. Secret Jardin place the infrared and ultraviolet bars in this range on their own timer, separate from your main light: far-red briefly at the end of the day, ultraviolet in a dose you build up. Hang one of those alongside a growth bar on this supply and they necessarily burn for the same hours, which loses you precisely the control those bars exist for.

The rule of thumb: share a supply between bars that follow the same schedule, and give a bar that needs separate switching its own.

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch the two bars independently?
No. They share a supply and therefore follow the same schedule.

Can I put an infrared bar on it?
You can, but it will then burn as long as the other bar. Separate switching needs a separate supply.

May I connect just one bar?
Yes. A supply delivers only what is asked of it.

Is this power supply waterproof?
No. The supply is IP54, so dust and splash resistant. The LED bars themselves are IP65 and may get wet.
