When a fluorescent tube is still the right answer
LED has taken over grow lighting and on most counts deservedly. There is still a corner where a fluorescent tube does better, though, and it is worth knowing which before writing them off.
That corner is low, wide setups where the crop sits close beneath the lamp. A tube spreads its light along the full fifty-six centimetres and barely warms up, so you may hang it low without risking scorch. A compact lamp of the same wattage concentrates everything at one point and must therefore keep its distance, which is exactly the distance a cabinet or a shelf does not give you.
On top of that, a tube is replaced on its own. When output falls after a few thousand hours you buy a new tube rather than a new fixture.
Where LED wins is efficiency per watt, and for a main lamp burning months on end that is the heaviest argument. For supplementary light, propagation and tight headroom it reads differently.

Frequently asked questions
Is the fixture included?
No. This is the tube alone. The TNeon fixture is bought separately or you already have one.
Does this tube run hot?
It runs at a low temperature, so it may hang close above your crop.
How long does it last?
More than 10,000 hours. After that you replace the tube, not the fixture.
Is LED not always better?
Per watt, yes. In low setups where the crop sits close beneath the lamp a tube still has advantages.
