Aptus - Fulvic-Blast

The deficiency you can see but cannot name

Aptus prescribe this product for what they call uncertain deficiencies, and that wording is more precise than it looks.

A nitrogen shortage you recognise: the leaf yellows from the bottom up. Magnesium too: yellow between the veins, oldest leaf first. But as soon as you reach the micro-elements the pictures run together. Iron, manganese and zinc all three give chlorosis on young leaf, and the difference lies in details you only see once you know exactly what you are looking at.

On top of that, a visible shortage is often not a shortage in the medium but an uptake problem: the element is there, but pH or an excess of something else is holding on to it.

That is the situation this bottle is built for. You do not have to know which element it is.

Thirteen elements, and nine of them appear nowhere else

Most descriptions of this product name four chelated micro-elements: iron, zinc, manganese and copper. Aptus's own manual carries a table of thirteen:

• Iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), the four everyone names
• Boron (B) and molybdenum (Mo), the two that are in most feeds but rarely called out separately
• Magnesium (Mg) and sulphur (S)
• Cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), vanadium (V), chlorine (Cl) and sodium (Na)

That last row is unusual. Cobalt, nickel and vanadium appear on virtually no label in this range, and that is exactly where the logic of a broad shot sits: if you do not know which element is missing, you want to hit thirteen rather than four.

The grouping is Aptus's. Magnesium is strictly a secondary macronutrient and sodium and chlorine are beneficial rather than essential for most crops, but that is how their list reads.

Why the low molecular weight matters

Aptus stress that the fulvic acid in this product has a very low molecular weight. That is not a detail for the chemistry lesson but the reason it works on something you already have.

A chelator binds a mineral and keeps it available. The smaller the molecule, the more easily the whole thing enters the plant. So Aptus state that Fulvic-Blast does not only supply the elements it carries, but also improves uptake of the micro-elements already sitting in your substrate.

Where a shortage is an uptake problem rather than a stock problem, that is the part doing the work.

Weekly, or as a correction

Aptus give two ways to use it and they do not exclude each other.

Preventively: once a week, right through the cycle. That is what Aptus themselves prefer, and their own tip is that weekly use prevents shortages and nutritional imbalance across the whole cycle.

Curatively: reach for it straight away when uncertain deficiencies appear in the leaf.

In the second case, do not expect a turnaround overnight. Existing leaf rarely recovers fully; what you judge is the new leaf that follows.

In use

Shake well before use. Mix 30 ml per 100 litres of water, that is 3 ml in 10 litres, a ratio of 1 in 3,333.

Fully water-soluble and it leaves no residue in the irrigation system, so you can run it through a drip system without concern. Suitable for soil, coco and hydro.

Why do other descriptions name only four elements?
Because Aptus's product texts name four. The table in their own manual counts thirteen.

Does it work on what is already in my substrate?
Aptus state that it improves uptake of micro-elements already present, thanks to the low molecular weight of the fulvic acid.

Will my damaged leaf recover?
Usually not fully. Judge the effect on the leaf that comes after it.
