Canna - Cannazym

An enzyme preparation from CANNA with more than twelve different enzymes, plus vitamins and an extract isolated from desert plants. Clears away dead root material so fungi have nothing to live on.

Never use this together with hydrogen peroxide

This is the most important rule for this product and almost no shop page carries it. CANNA themselves state that Cannazym must not be combined with products containing hydrogen peroxide.

That is not a theoretical warning, because these are exactly the two things a grower reaches for at the same time. See brown roots or smell the reservoir and you reach for peroxide to disinfect. And you dose enzymes because you want the dead material cleared. Put both in the same tank and neither happens: peroxide is a strong oxidiser and enzymes are proteins, and an oxidiser destroys a protein.

If you want to use both, separate them in time. Disinfect with peroxide, flush the system through, and bring the enzymes back only with the next reservoir.

A bottle that has gone colourless has not gone off

Another thing CANNA say and the trade does not pass on. The colour of Cannazym varies between bottles and can disappear entirely under the influence of light and temperature, because it is a natural product.

CANNA state explicitly that the enzyme activity is not lost with it. A bottle that has gone paler than you are used to is simply usable. Store it dark and closed and the colour holds better, and go by the twenty-four month guarantee rather than by the colour.

Dosing, and when to double it

CANNA give two rhythms. With every watering you mix 1 in 400, which is 25 ml per 10 litres. Feeding it once a week, you mix 1 in 100, which is 100 ml per 10 litres. Start from the second week and continue to the last week.

There are three situations where CANNA advise a double dose, and all three are about catching up. In the final two weeks of the cycle. Throughout the last four weeks if you gave no enzymes at all during the grow. And after harvest, saturating the medium with water and a double dose before new plants go in. On older, untreated slabs you keep the double dose for a month.

Loosen the medium a little before that post-harvest treatment. The enzymes have to reach the dead material, and in a compacted slab they do not get far. Keep the pH between 5.5 and 6.0.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this with hydrogen peroxide?
No. CANNA explicitly advise against the combination. Peroxide breaks the enzymes down, so you lose the effect of both. Separate them in time.

My bottle is almost colourless, is it still good?
Yes. The colour varies between bottles and can vanish through light and temperature without the enzyme activity suffering. Go by the best-before date.

When should I double the dose?
In the last two weeks, throughout the last four weeks if you gave nothing earlier, and after harvest when treating the medium.

Can I reuse my coco or rockwool with this?
That is exactly what it is for. Saturate the medium after harvest with a double dose, and loosen it first.
