Plagron - Mega Worm

Worm castings from the Dendrobaena Veneta worm, made from composted plant remains. Meant to get the soil life in your substrate going.

This is not a fertiliser, and the manufacturer says so

Worm castings are often sold as though they were rich feed. Plagron are clear about it: Mega Worm contains hardly any directly absorbable nutrients. What it does contain is soil life, in quantity, and that soil life converts the organic matter in your soil into something the plant can take up.

That distinction decides how you use it. If you can see a deficiency in your crop right now, this is not the product that fixes it; for that you need something the plant can absorb this week. Mix it through your pot at the start and you are building the machine that works for you through the rest of the cycle. It is an investment up front, not a repair afterwards.

The castings naturally carry beneficial fungi, among them mycorrhiza and trichoderma. Those grow along with the root system and occupy the space where less friendly fungi would otherwise settle.

Watch the pH if you use a lot

Mega Worm is alkaline: Plagron give a pH between 6,9 and 8,5 and an EC of 1,0 to 1,5. At the usual dose you barely notice it, but mix it in generously to revive old potting soil and it pulls your mix upward. Measure your substrate after mixing rather than after the first watering, and you can still adjust.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fix a deficiency with this?
No. There is virtually no directly absorbable feed in it. Mix it through your substrate in advance and it works for you all cycle.

Can I use too much of it?
Overfeeding is hard to do, but the pH does rise at a generous dose. Measure your mix before you plant.

Can I revive old potting soil with it?
Yes, that is exactly what it suits. Soil life is usually the first thing to disappear from used soil.

Does it work in coco as well?
To a limited extent. Coco is poorer in organic matter, so the soil life you introduce has less to eat.
