Plagron

Plagron sits in two of our categories, which is unusual: most feed brands do not sell soil and most soil brands do not sell feed. Here both come from the same maker, and that makes the choice simpler than it looks, because the bag and the bottle point at the same medium.

The substrate

Under Substrates and Growing Media sit the media: Lightmix with perlite and Super Mix as soils, Cocos Brix as compressed coco, Perlite and Euro Pebbles as an amendment or drainage layer, and Bat Guano, Mega Worm and Calcium Kick as soil additions. The Seedbox and Seedbooster Plus for starting off are there too.

The feed

Under Nutrients the lines follow the same distinction: Terra with a Grow and a Bloom for soil, Cocos as A plus B, Hydro as A plus B, and Alga with Grow and Bloom as the organic line. Alongside those, the additives: Power Roots, Hydro Roots, Vita Start, Vita Race, Green Sensation, Power Buds, Sugar Royal, PK 13-14, Pure Zym, Silic Rock, Calmag Pro, Lemon Kick and the pH liquids. And there are made-up packages, the Easy Packs and the Top Grow Boxes, each in a 100% Terra and a 100% Natural version.

Where the two categories meet

In the name of your package. The Top Grow Box and the Easy Pack both exist in 100% Terra and 100% Natural, and that distinction runs right through to the bag you stand it in. So start at the medium: decide on soil, coco or a recirculating system, and let the feed line follow from that rather than the other way around. Choosing a bottle and then hunting for a bag to match is the reverse order and produces more mismatches.

One thing worth knowing about this brand in particular

Plagron have revised the composition or the directions of more than one product while the name and the label stayed the same, and much of what is written about those products elsewhere online followed the old version. We keep our product pages to what Plagron publish now. If the text on your bottle differs from something you read somewhere else, that is often why. In that case go by the bottle in your hand.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 100% Terra and 100% Natural?
They are two make-ups of a package, and the difference carries through to which substrate and which line belong with it. The package's own page lists what is in it.

Can I use Plagron feed in another brand's substrate?
Yes. The line is chosen on the type of medium, not on the brand of the bag. Coco feed belongs with coco, whoever's coco it is.

Where are the sowing and cutting products?
Under Substrates and Growing Media with the media, not with the nutrients. The Seedbox and Seedbooster Plus are two different products with very different dosing, so read both pages if you move from one to the other.
