A 40x40 is the smallest tent stocked here and that changes the task. On larger tents the question is whether you move enough air; here it is whether you are pushing too much through. This size is meant for cuttings, a mother plant or a single plant, and that is exactly where too much airflow does harm rather than good.

Why too much is the problem here

In this volume even a modest fan changes the air several times a minute. The result is that your humidity collapses, which is wrong for cuttings and young plants: they need high humidity and are barely transpiring yet. So choose something you can turn well down, and expect to run it low as a matter of course.

The quiet fans live here

The Vents Quietline is built around silence and gives up airflow for it, which at this size is no drawback but actually matches what you need. The DUO version has two speeds. Filtering at this scale

There are two small carbon filters at this size. If you only run cuttings or a mother here, odour is usually not an issue and you can skip the filter. If you flower in the same tent, the filter belongs on it, and you allow for the resistance it adds when choosing your fan.

One small circulation fan is enough here, and at this distance you aim it along the canopy and never at it. Ducting, flanges and clamps sit in their own groups; those are not size-specific, so pick the same diameter there as your fan.

Do I even need extraction here?
Yes, even in the smallest tent. Without air changes the humidity climbs and heat sits. It just needs to be gentle: set low and running continuously beats hard and intermittent.

Is Ø 100 mm not far too big?
In capacity yes, in connection size no. There is no smaller size, so you buy Ø100 and turn it down. That is why adjustability matters more than power here.

When do I move to a bigger tent?
As soon as you want to finish more than one plant. For flowering in the same space a 60x40 or larger is more comfortable.
