Grow Tents — Dark Box

We stock five Dark Box tents and the naming is almost self-explanatory: the number is the width in centimetres. Almost, because there is one exception, and it is below. What sets this range apart in practice is not the width but the height, and height is the measurement most people check too late.

The five, in order

The DB60 is 60 x 60 x 180 cm. The DB80 is 80 x 80 x 200 cm, around 1.28 cubic metres of volume. The DB100 is 100 x 100 x 220 cm, exactly one square metre of floor. The DB120 is 120 x 120 x 220 cm, so 1.44 square metres. And then the exception: the DB120W is 120 x 60 x 180 cm, a rectangle rather than a square. The same 120 in the name, half the floor area.

Height is the measurement that counts

Where many 60 by 60 tents stop at 140 to 160 cm, the DB60 stands at 180. That sounds like a detail until you add up what has to fit into that height: a carbon filter, a fan, the hanging gear, the lamp with the distance it needs above the crop, and only then the plant. At 140 cm there is little left in practice; at 180 you can run a full cycle. On the larger sizes the height climbs to 220 cm.

What you actually buy the DB120W for

Not growing area, because that is half a DB120. It is for a space where 60 cm of depth is the limit: an alcove, a sloping loft, a cupboard. You are paying for the shape rather than the floor, which is a perfectly good trade as long as you make it deliberately.

Which size suits a lamp covering 100 x 100 cm?
The DB100. Bear in mind that a lamp's coverage shrinks as you hang it lower, and your tent's height decides how high you can hang.

Will a filter and fan fit inside?
