Grow Tents — 80x80

Eighty by eighty is nearly double the floor area of a 60x60 and still fits in the corner of a room. It is the size at which a setup first becomes complete without anything having to give: there is room for a plant, a lamp at distance and a carbon filter, all three at once.

Why the filter is what makes the difference

On a 60x60 you have to choose: either a carbon filter inside the tent, or the height for your plant. At this size you no longer do. The filter hangs at the top beside the lamp and you keep plant height, and for most people that is the actual reason to choose this size over the smaller one.

What is here

The Homebox Ambient Q80+ and the Ferna Home Grow Box are both 180 centimetres tall. Alongside them the Dark Box DB80, the Garden Highpro Probox Basic 80 and the Secret Jardin Hydro Shoot 80 as the value route. They differ mainly in fabric thickness and frame load rating; read that if a filter is going in.

The equipment stays cheap

This size still manages on Ø 100 mm extraction, provided you choose from the upper end of that range, and a lamp of 150 to 250 watts. It is the last size where that holds: at 100x100 you move to Ø 125 mm and a heavier lamp, and the bill climbs.

Where it fits

In the corner of a bedroom, a loft or a storage room. Count space around the tent into your plan, because the zip has to open and you need to reach in without damaging the plant. At this size you can still work from one side; at the larger sizes you cannot.
