From a thousand cubic metres per hour you are moving the contents of a room several times a minute. At this point the fan is rarely your worry any more; it is installed and doing its job. What starts to count here is the filter: how often you replace it, and whether your structure can carry it.

The filter becomes the consumable

A carbon filter works because air stays in contact with the carbon long enough. Push more air per hour through it and the service life drops, and at this airflow you notice within a single grow. The refillable kits are more interesting here than at any other scale, because you replace only the carbon and leave the housing hanging.

Weight is a mounting decision here

The heaviest filters in this band weigh tens of kilos, and that does not simply hang off a tent frame designed for a lamp and a fan. Work out the mounting before ordering, and note that the heaviest versions are not always shipped but collected from the shop.

Noise stacks with airflow

Everything gets louder as you move more air: the motor, the air in the duct and the vibration through your structure. In this band a pre-damped fan is often the simplest answer, and otherwise acoustic ducting over a long run does more than a single silencer at the end.

Frequently asked questions

How often will I replace my filter?
More often than on a smaller build, because more air passes through the same carbon per hour. Your nose is the indicator, not the calendar.

Refillable or plain?
Refillable once you run several cycles, because then you replace only the carbon. At these filter sizes that saves considerably in weight and waste.

Can my tent frame carry this?
Do not assume so. Check the stated load rating of your frame and hang heavy filters from the ceiling or a wall bracket where you can.
