The size you are already on

Almost nobody starts from scratch at Ø 160 mm. You end up here because your fan, your filter or the ducting in your space is already 160, so the question is not which size to choose but whether you can find everything without reducing at every joint. You can, more readily than this size's reputation suggests.

Filters are well represented here

This is the opposite of what you would expect from an in-between size: carbon filters are the largest group at Ø160. The Can-Lite comes in several sizes, alongside the Can-Filters Inline that may sit anywhere in the duct rather than only at the start, a Prima Klima, and the Secret Jardin DF16 CTC80 filters for smaller builds. Filtering at this size is no compromise.

The fan choice is narrow in number, not in kind

There are fewer than at Ø150, but each covers a different need. The Can-Fan Iso-Max 160 at 430 cubic metres per hour already sits in an insulated jacket, the Max Fan Pro 160 and the RK 160L sit at the high end of the airflow, and the Vents TT Pro 160 is the mixed-flow that holds its airflow better once resistance builds. Ducting and couplers: this is where the real breadth is

Ø160 is one of the best-served sizes in ducting. Combiconnect comes by the metre and by the box, Sonoconnect and Sonodec in the acoustic version, and the insulated Airsock exists in this diameter only. In parts there are flanges, clamps, a back draught shutter and the rubber sleeve that decouples the fan from your run.

150 and 160 are not interchangeable

They differ by a centimetre and that is enough not to fit. Reducing between the two costs pressure at exactly the point where you can least spare it. If you are building new, pick one of the two and hold it along the whole run.

Should I switch from 160 to 150?
Not on grounds of availability. Filters and ducting are plentiful here and the fan choice, while narrower, covers every type. Switching costs you reducers and pressure.

Will a Ø150 filter fit a Ø160 fan?
Not without a reducer, and that is precisely the pressure you are trying to save at this size. Take a filter supplied in Ø160.

Why does the Airsock only come in this size?
That is how it is supplied. For insulated duct in another diameter, look at Sonoconnect or Sonodec, which solve the same problem.
